A DUI Conviction Doesn't Just Mean a Fine.

Tennessee DUI carries consequences that reach into every corner of your life, even after the case closes. Most people don’t realize the full picture until it’s too late.

Whats on the Line

License Suspension

Minimum 1 year on a first offense. Duration increases for multiple offenders.

Jail Time

Up to 11 months 29 days for a first DUI. Mandatory 48 hours on a first conviction. Prior convictions escalate this significantly.

Career Consequences

Professional licenses, security clearances, federal employment, and jobs requiring driving can all be jeopardized by a DUI conviction.

Insurance Costs

A DUI conviction typically causes a 50–100% increase in auto insurance premiums for 3–5 years. Some carriers drop you entirely.

Permanent Record

Tennessee DUI convictions cannot be expunged. They appear on background checks forever, impacting housing, credit, and employment.

Fines & Costs

Fines, court costs, DUI School, ignition interlock devices, reinstatement fees, and other expenses can total thousands of dollars.

The Other Side's Playbook

Your Attorney Has Sat on Both Sides of The Courtroom

Tim Gilbert is a former prosecutor. He spent years deciding which DUI cases to take to trial and how to win them. Now he uses that knowledge to defend you.

That experience is your advantage.

The Gilbert Firm Difference

An Advantage
Built From the Inside Out

Before founding The Gilbert Firm, Tim Gilbert spent years as a prosecutor deciding which cases to charge, which evidence to lean on, and how to take a DUI to trial and win. That experience shapes every motion filed, every piece of evidence scrutinized, and every conversation with the prosecution.

01
Former Prosecutor — Trial-Tested

Courtroom credibility isn’t built in a conference room. Tim’s background as a prosecutor means he has stood before juries, made arguments under pressure, and knows how to present complex evidence in a way that resonates with real people.

02
Direct Access. No Handoffs.

At The Gilbert Firm, you work with Tim directly. Your case will not be handed to a paralegal after the intake call. When your case matters this much, you deserve the attorney’s attention, not a case manager’s updates.

03
Free Consultation

Your first call with Tim costs nothing. You’ll speak directly with him, not a receptionist, not a paralegal, not an associate.  Speak with a lawyer and leave with a clear picture of where your case stands and what your options are.

04
Flat Fee Pricing

No hourly billing. No surprise invoices. Tim uses flat-fee pricing for DUI cases so you know exactly what your defense costs before you commit to anything.

What to Expect

How We Handle Your Case, Start to Finish

Step One
Free Consultation

Call or Submit a Contact form. Tim will reach out to you directly. He’ll ask you the right questions about your arrest, the stop, any tests you were given, and your timeline. This call is completely confidential and free.

Step Two
Investigation & Evidence Preservation

At the General Sessions stage, formal discovery isn’t yet available  so the immediate priority is identifying and contacting witnesses and working to view  dashcam footage, body camera video, and any other time-sensitive evidence before retention windows close.

Step Three
A Defense Built on How the System Actually Works
Tim reviews everything: the legality of the initial encounter, how the officer conducted himself, how the field sobriety tests were administered, and every available record from the arresting agency. Drawing on years of experience deciding which DUI cases to take to trial and how to win them, he builds a defense strategy around what the state actually needs to prove. Then he goes to work, pushing for dismissal, negotiating reduced charges, or taking your case to trial.
